BEHIND THE SCENE GIRLS
JUGGLING SUCCESS #1
Hi ya! Thanks for joining the adventure we call life with a group of women we call Behind the Scene Girls or #BTSG. We inspire each other and celebrate our victories and collectively grieve during our difficult moments as we work tirelessly in the shadows managing brands, business dealings, wealth, and the lies of highly publicized and at times idolized men.
TinaMarie Carson
Introduction: I am TinaMarie Carson, some will call me the nucleus of BTSG. I describe myself as a scorpio woman, laid back, go-getter, firecracker with the natural inability to maintain a slightly normal life. Right now, I am a striving entrepreneur and brilliant power broker who leverages relationships to broker chaos and assist my friends’ business ventures and successful careers. But I have dreams of being a woman with an outstanding social enterprise to set standards for others in my sector. I guess some will say I am fighting for my independence, but I…… well I really don’t know. I just know my gut tells me I deserve more.
Join the journey with me and let me know how I can grow via social media and #BTSG.

TINAMARIE @ PAMBLES INCORPORATED BOARD ROOM
I hate when I sweat! On top of the chaos I call my life, I am in the middle of pitching the most independent business venture I have ever touched to the most independently wealthy business person in Washington D.C., Mr. Pambles. I am so afraid of rejection and poorly performing today I just can not stop pacing and sweating. UGH! Where is my over-paid, under-performing assistant when I need him. Oh, I forget, I lost him with the break-up. I guess I will have to encourage myself. Speaking in my cheerleader voice, “Tina, this is not new to you. You have done this before. Plus Pambles is a friend. He respects you and wants the best for you. Calm down and have fun!”
The door opens as I am pacing back and forth in an unfamiliar space silently praying my presentation goes well. Ironically, I remember that today turns a new page to a new chapter in my life. I am officially single.
The board room has a long wood table with posh chairs, screen, projector and my PowerPoint presentation ready to go. I spent all night creating slides and preparing for this moment. On the screen is the first slide with the title page written SustainableTogether. I smile just a little after I notice how great it looks on the screen. Six people enter the room to sit at the board room table staring at me in front of the room holding a clicker to transition the slides as I discuss the presentation.
As everyone sits, I blare out “welcome everyone and thank you for allowing me to present my new company, SustainableTogether. SustainableTogether is a middle-income housing cooperative and community incubator for residents of Washington D.C.” I continue to share more information about the units. “The co-op will provide keyless entry into apartments, two or three bedroom units with washer and dryer and WIFI ports inside every unit, community garden, recreation rooms, outdoor space, mini dog park and commercial space available to all residents. I graciously request an investment of 5 million dollars to purchase land and develop 114 units in the Shaw neighborhood. Pambles Incorporated will receive 20% equity in the business.”
Finally, Mr. Pambles stares at me and says, “Your presentation is sound. It could be a great investment, we are honored you considered our investment firm. But I am very unclear as to why you are here.” Happy and shocked by his statement, I responded, “because you are the only solution for the co-op.” Internally I pray my words are encouraging and reaffirming my interest in conducting business with him. Mr. Pambles is the best real estate developer, investor and broker in D.C. with local contacts to make this project affordable and successful. I really wish I could have said because you are my friend and I need you. But I guess that would be unfair to him.
Mr. Pambles pushes back in his chair. Sighs and hesitates as he appears puzzled and requests his staff clear the room to have a more private conversation with me. All five people get up and walk towards the door and exit as I continue to stand in front of the room by the screen.
Mr. Pambles directs me to grab a seat as he points to a chair. Walking away from the presentation screen I feel his eyes seductively watching me as I sit down across from him. His demeanor changes and I can see in his face a possible rejection. “Tina, I….. I am a little puzzled.” “You have money and connections.” “You do not need me.”
With my head down, I squeaks out, “but I do.” “I need you and would be honored to work with you. Will you give me this opportunity?” He responds, “Investing in your company is easy. The ownership percentage is low. But that’s not my problem. I want a favor before I consider investing. And this favor will be an uncomfortable one.”
At that moment I felt a disappointing statement was coming. I could only shake my head and ask him to define the type of favor he was requesting. “Well, Tina, I am launching an online sports magazine and I need a top player to give a private intimate interview. I need you to find the player.”
I respond, “Pambles, I would love to support your business venture but I am no longer part of the sports and entertainment world.” In the middle of me rejecting his favor he gets up from his chair and walks toward me and stands provocatively close to me as he touches my shoulder and says, “make it happen!” “Call one of your best friends or an ex-boyfriend. But get it done for me.”
With disappointment in my eyes, I stand up and promise him I will see what I can do and request three days to secure an interview for him. I collect my belongings, clear the screen and pack my bag to leave Pambles Incorporated. Walking toward the elevator I open my twitter account and write a tweet. “No matter how far I run, I will always be a #BTSG. I board the elevator, hit send for the tweet, and I begin to cry.
